A cool animation showing two centuries of immigration to the US

I thought I was a dot. But now I know that I am a tiny tiny fraction of a dot. Here is a fascinating animation showing let two centuries of US immigration from various countries in the world. A dot here is 10,000 people. From Metrocosm:
From 1820 to 2013, 79 million people obtained lawful permanent resident status in the United States. The interactive map below visualizes all of them based on their prior country of residence. The brightness of a country corresponds to its total migration to the U.S. at the given time.

It will be interesting to see a similar animation for UK, France, Germany, and Russia/Soviet Union to see economic shifts in the past 200 years and if and how that is connected to immigration.
