Saturday Video: Culture, politics, and the Iranian Cinema

Here is a fascinating look at the Iranian Cinema: Inside Iranian Cinema. I really like the shots of Tehran and some interesting insight into the relation between the clerics and the cinema in Iran. While we are at it, check out the this segment of the wonderful Iranian film called The Day I Became a Woman. See here part 1 and part 2 (both are about 15 minutes in length). These also include some wonderful folk astronomy too - though I should mention that at Iranian latitudes, the shadow of the stick never disappears at noon. Oh - but this is just a minor quibble in a wonderfully sweet story.
